Part Time Work for Full Time Students

We realise that you may need to work part time.  However, you must try and ensure that it does not interfere with your studies.  As part of the Student Code of Conduct you have signed up to 100% attendance and we would expect you to commit fully to your studies.

As a guide, we would advise you not to work for more than 15 hours per week and avoid undertaking any employment that may occur during your normal college day i.e. Mon – Fri 9.00 until 5.00pm.

Contact with Your Parents or Guardian

The college’s responsibility to provide information to parents and guardians

Consistent with the Data Protection Act, we request permission from you to share details on your attendance, progress and behaviour with your parent or guardian.  We do this through the enrolment form. This is applicable to all students under the age of eighteen.

We are not able to ignore an express wish from a learner if you do not wish information to be released to your parent(s)/guardians.  However, we will do our best to obtain that consent as we feel that this is usually in your best interests.

The way we communicate:

As a college committed to reducing our paper use and postage for both environmental and financial reasons we communicate with parents and guardians using the telephone, through meetings and by email. As a consequence you must keep your parents email and telephone contact details up to date on your My Student Information record.

Posting out information will be the exception. Please let us know if we need to communicate with your parents through the postal system.

e-ILP (Electronic Individual Learning Plan) – your performance throughout the year

Throughout the year you and your parents can access your e-ILP record by using your user name and password.  Your e-ILP can be accessed through the college website www.gcs.ac.uk.

Your e-ILP provides information on your attendance, behaviour on a day to day basis through the cause for concern system and your academic reports as they are released.

From September 2016 the e-ILP will be available as a downloadable application to your mobile phone or chosen device.

Progress Evenings

The college arranges Progress Evenings in order that your parents or guardians can talk to academic staff about your progress. This is done on an appointment basis to ensure that the right member of staff is available for them to talk to.  We arrange this through you your Tutor will let you know the Progress Evening dates.

Changing or Leaving Your Course

If you are unhappy with your course/subject choices you must discuss this with your personal tutor, the Curriculum Leader for your course or the Learning Area Manager. They will be able to advise you on the best course of action.

Alternatively you can contact student services at Belgrave Rd, Tycoch or Llwyn Y Bryn.  Should you decide to leave or change your course the college can suggest alternatives which may be more suited to your needs and abilities.

If you decide to change or leave your course please go to your Faculty Office.

If you want to change your course or individual subject you must do so by Friday 21st October 2016.

After you return to college after the half term break on the 31st October, it is expected that you remain with your chosen course or subjects for the whole academic year.

Academic Appeals

If you do not agree with the grade you have been given by your lecturer, you will need to discuss it with them.  Most disputes are resolved at this stage.

If you are still unhappy about your grade, you can speak to the learning area manager or the internal verifier.  If you need more information, please refer to the Student Appeals Procedure or Internal Verification Policy.
