The college’s responsibility to provide information to parents and guardians
Consistent with the Data Protection Act, we request permission from you to share details on your attendance, progress and behaviour with your parent or guardian. We do this through the enrolment form. This is applicable to all students under the age of eighteen.
We are not able to ignore an express wish from a learner if you do not wish information to be released to your parent(s)/guardians. However, we will do our best to obtain that consent as we feel that this is usually in your best interests.
The way we communicate:
As a college committed to reducing our paper use and postage for both environmental and financial reasons we communicate with parents and guardians using the telephone, through meetings and by email. As a consequence you must keep your parents email and telephone contact details up to date on your My Student Information record.
Posting out information will be the exception. Please let us know if we need to communicate with your parents through the postal system.
e-ILP (Electronic Individual Learning Plan) – your performance throughout the year
Throughout the year you and your parents can access your e-ILP record by using your user name and password. Your e-ILP can be accessed through the college website www.gcs.ac.uk.
Your e-ILP provides information on your attendance, behaviour on a day to day basis through the cause for concern system and your academic reports as they are released.
From September 2016 the e-ILP will be available as a downloadable application to your mobile phone or chosen device.
Progress Evenings
The college arranges Progress Evenings in order that your parents or guardians can talk to academic staff about your progress. This is done on an appointment basis to ensure that the right member of staff is available for them to talk to. We arrange this through you your Tutor will let you know the Progress Evening dates.
